Oddities and Ripples

Here’s an albino quail at The Brickyard. Snapped this pic on my way out of the drive using my cell phone. Couldn’t get closer cause the bird flew several feet away. Cool.

Sounds…

Isn’t it strange how hearing a song can evoke a memory? Suddenly I’m transported to another time and a different place. As I listen, the four walls of my plush carpeted, sandalwood scented sitting room fall away; I’m walking on the breakwater in a small coastal village on foreign soil with my hand held firmly by the one who knows me best.

Comforted by the splendid presence of undiluted love and pure romance, I laugh aloud with the sheer rapture of life with my soul mate…

Song lyrics nudge at my ears and I’m drawn back to the present. Sighing, I sag into the cushions of my lonely divan and let drop to my side the hand so recently (and so long ago) held. It tingles with remembered pressure of caressing fingertips.

and Scents

Isn’t it odd how the faintest hint of a fragrance will transport a fickle present to an idyllic past? Leaning in, I close my eyes and let the feathery soft pink tips of a mimosa blossom touch my nose. That gentle scent sweeps me back to security and innocence—a time of careless glee in the blossom rich, tree-filled space of my granny’s back yard.

An acrid smell wrenches me from childhood and shoves me toward my kitchen; I have burnt the toast—again.

My first attempt to paint thanks to Nita Edwards, a very patient teacher. Oil on black canvas.

Moonlit Cove

My first attempt to paint did okay for ME thanks to Nita Edwards, a patient teacher. Oil on black canvas.

A new attempt to put photos where I WANT them to be rather than where the gnome in the machine puts them–good grief! Hopefully a photo will appear here…soon.    YES!!!! It worked.

Another glorious sunrinse at Hamburg State Park.

Today I am sharing a snippet just because I can. Tell me what you think…

What does a gopher turtle have in common with a confirmed bachelor and an attractive lady visitor to a rural Georgia county?  All three are necessary ingredients in “Turtle Soup,” my short story in which one of the local “toughs” endangers his reputation by saving a turtle.  His actions unintentionally endear him to a lady studying the gopher turtle, a protected species.  The local color of a small community adds spice to this soup.

Allllrighty then. I have mastered uploading photos!

So enjoy a few of my scenic views of the microcosm…

Aghast

                                     Yikes!!!

Imagine what our world looks like when seen up close. This pic is an enlargement of a single raindrop. I’ve discovered that, like snowflakes, each drop is different.

This is old stuff I may delete when I’m of a mind–

Now I’m trying to lear how to add new posts to particular categories. I would like this to appear at the top of Oddities…

I typed in green to differentiate between the old post and the new…

Okay, here goes nuttin’

What’s odd about this? Nothing at the moment, but as soon as I can create an oddity, this is where I’ll put it.

I’m even considering posting a few of the short pieces I’ve already written–you did know that I’m a writer, right?

Well, now you know. I’ve been duly published and have not perished in the processed. Poetry, short stories, novels, fiction, non-fiction, newspaper, magazine–yep, that’s me. Been there and back and goin’ again!

Starting small, but when my tootsies get good and soaked, I’ll know it’s time to post BIG 🙂 Hang on and let’s see where this takes us.

Thanks for stoppin’ in.

  1. Well, I came up with an oddity, attempted to post it here, and posted it on Home page by some miraculous glitch in technology 🙁
Still learning. So bounce on over to my Home page and see what’s “Odder Still.”
